UK Ancestry Visa
Any Commonwealth national who happens to have a British born grandparent (UK, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands), is entitled to apply for ancestral visa rights to UK. Successful applicants can comfortably stay and work in the United Kingdom, as long as they are able to meet the following:
The applicant has to be 18 years old or above
The applicant can produce all the required documents, confirming his eligibility
Since the visa does not allow access to any public funds, the applicant should be able to support him/herself financially in the UK.
He/she also needs to submit a proof of the various travel and accommodation arrangements, as made.
With no employment or study restrictions as such, the ancestral visa itself is issued for 5 years and grants multi-entry permission to successful applicants. The grandparent need not still be alive, for the applicant to be eligible for this visa. Also, one cannot claim a UK ancestry through step parents.
During the course of those five years, the applicant can request for a further extension of five years or even for a Permanent UK Residency, depending upon his/her eligibility.
