Canada Working Holiday Visa
With its International Experience Canada (IEC) initiative, Canadian government offers young foreign nationals an opportunity to work and travel in Canada for a short period of time. The program is available to citizens of only those countries that have a bilateral youth mobility agreement with Canada.
There are three visa categories available under IEC program. Which category an applicant can apply under depends on his country of origin.
Working Holiday
This category allows eligible foreign youths to work in Canada to earn money for their travel expenses. Working holiday is the most popular IEC category. Immigrants can work for almost any Canadian employer, but only on a temporary basis.
Young Professionals
This category is for those who want to better prepare themselves for a global career. In Canada, they get to meet and work with people from different cultural backgrounds. This helps them in learning new approaches of building career, as well as in learning new languages.
International Co-op Internship
This category is specifically for students who want to gain some work experience related to their field of study through an Internship in Canada.
Additionally through IEC program,Canadian citizens can also participate in the above listed activities in the eligible countries.
In general, the age requirement for this visa is 18 to 35 years, however, for certain countries it is between 18 and 30. In addition to that, applicants have to meet following basic requirements:
Have a minimum amount of CAN$ 2,500 to cover the expenses for their initial stay in Canada
Have a recognized medical insurance that covers their total period of stay in Canada
Are not accompanied by any dependent family member or relative
Depending on the category and country, the visa remains valid from 6 months to 24 months.
