Australia Professional Year Accounting
One of Australia Immigration department’s prominent offerings, Professional Year is a well-structured program for foreign students that combines formal leaning with workplace experience. The Professional Year Accounting, or Skilled Migration Internship Program – Accounting (SMIPA), helps eligible candidates in developing the knowledge and skills that employers look for. During the professional year, candidates will be:
Familiarized with Australian employment market, work culture and workplace ethics
Taught how to communicate effectively and professionally in Australian workplace environment
Provided an internship to get familiar with all aspects of Australian workplace
The program was developed with combined efforts of Chartered Accountants Australia or Institute of Public Accountants, and is provided by a number of institutions approved by both these accounting bodies.
Here are the major highlights of the program:
Professional component: 44 weeks (minimum duration for the complete program)
Training component: 30 weeks
Weekend sessions: 1 x 8 hours per week
Weeknight sessions: 2 x 4 hours per week
Internship placement:12 weeks (full-time)
Aspire: IELTS Advanced program: 5 weeks(1 x 4 hours every week)
The program will take care of entire professional development of the eligible candidates, and apart from practical hands-on learning,will also prepare candidates on workplace culture, ethics, expectations and responsibilities.
In order to enter into the SMIPA, foreign nationals have to meet following requirements:
Candidates must be graduated from a related higher education program (accounting degree) of minimum 2 years duration in Australia
Candidates must be holding a subclass of 485 Temporary Resident Visa
Candidates must have achieved a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent for General Test Report Form (TRF) in all four sections – reading, writing, speaking, listening
Candidates must have completed at least 9 of their 12 core knowledge areas at tertiary level including the compulsory core knowledge areas relevant to their ANZSCO (Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations) code
Candidates must obtain a Skilled Assessment letter from one of the professional accounting bodies
