Prospective Marriage Visa (Subclass 300)
Marriage visa for Australia
The Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) allows foreign nationals to come to Australia to marry their prospective spouse. The prospective spouse must be either:
An Australian citizen,
A permanent resident of Australia, or
An eligible New Zealand Citizen
In addition, applicants must meet the following requirements in order to become eligible for this visa:
They must be sponsored by their prospective spouse
They must have documents proving that they intend to marry the sponsoring person
They must prove that they have already met with their prospective spouse in person, or know them in person (even in the case of an arranged marriage)
They must meet certain age, health and character requirements, as per mentioned in Australian immigration law.
In addition, the applicant, as well as the sponsoring prospective spouse must be older than 18 years of age. Also, the applicant must be outside Australia while lodging application for subclass 300 visa, as well as when the visa is decided. The wedding can be in or outside Australia.
Subclass 300 is a temporary stay visa, which allows you to stay in Australia for a period of nine months. While your visa is valid, you can enter and leave Australia multiple times. The Prospective Marriage visa also allows you to enroll in short-term study courses, and work in part-time jobs in Australia. After the marriage, you can apply for the Partner visa to get permanent residency in Australia.
