Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186)
Get permanent residence in Australia as a skilled worker
Through Employer Nomination Scheme, the Government of Australia encourages overseas skilled workers to come, live and work in Australia as permanent employees. As the name suggests, foreign workers are first nominated by an approved Australian employer for a skilled position before they become eligible to apply for subclass 186 visa.
There are three streams under this visa:
Temporary Residence Transition stream: If you have worked in Australia on a skilled position for two years, for which you were nominated on temporary basis under subclass 457 visa, and your employer offers you the same position on permanent basis, then you become eligible to apply for subclass 186 visa under Temporary Residence Transition stream.
Direct Entry stream: You can apply under this stream if you
are a temporary resident in Australia but do not qualify for Temporary Residence Transition stream,
have briefly worked in Australia on a valid visa in past, or
have been nominated by an Australian employer under the Direct Entry stream
Agreement stream: You can apply under this stream if an Australian employer has sponsored you under the labor agreement.
In order to obtain this visa, you need to meet certain other requirements such as you should be below 50 years of age (unless you are exempt*), have necessary qualifications for the nominated position, have vocational knowledge of English, and meet certain health and character requirements. In case you don’t already have a job offer, you can first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through Skill Select program to get nominated for a position.
* You have been nominated under a special category, such as senior academic in an Australian University, or under a relevant labor agreement that allows people over 50 to be employed.
